What is an Induction Cooktop?

Induction cooktops use electromagnetism to generate heat directly, making the cookware the heat source. This heat is then conducted to the food inside the cooking vessel.

Induction cooktops heat up faster and are more efficient than radiant cooktops. The design of an induction hob is such that the pan is heated instantly.

Additionally, since no heat is lost to the area around the induction cooktop, the amount of time it takes to cook the food is a lot less than that of radiant heated cooktops.

Safety

One factor to consider before buying a new cooker is its safety, especially for families with children.

A radiant cooktop retains heat a lot longer after cooking than an induction hob. However, many modern radiant cooktop models come with a heat indicator that tells the user the cooktop’s hotter parts. They also offer safety features that vary according to the model selected. For example, Wolf, GE, Gasland, and other manufacturers include child locks in electric stovetops with a glass-ceramic surface.

Since induction cooktops heat the pot or pan directly instead of the top of the cooktop, the cooking surface doesn’t get hot until the induction-ready cookware is placed on the cooking zone.

    This was recommended to me by Amila from Dinapala after I returned an infared cooker where the fan stopped working it’s much easier to use , no heating and fan issues issues and has 2 cooking zones . Has served me well so far

    Bought this for my mother aged 68. It's easy enough to explain 1. Press the function button and you can change according to your needs like fry for frying and hot pot for curry's so its just pressing the on/off button and pressing function button which is easy enough to explain to anybody . so far my mother has had no issue with operating this

    Expensive but still bought it as the product has great safety features and overheat protection which is good as my teenage daughters use it all the time . had to buy separate induction base cook wear to use as it doesn't work with normal cookware.

Q . Does The surface get Hot and whats the difference between Induction and Infrared cookers
A. No Surface doesn’t get hot for induction cookers . Induction cook-tops generate a strong electrical field which interacts with the iron-content in the base of the pan. This results in heat being developed in the pan-base. Infrared cook-tops use a powerful lamp in the infrared part of the light spectrum which is focussed onto the glass or ceramic surface of the cook-top. This heat is then transferred to the pan by conduction.
Q . Are Infrared Cookers or Induction Cookers better than Hot plates ?
A. Yes they Heat up much Faster than hot plates and hence will save you electricity as well since hot plates take a longer time to heat and are not suitable for cooking curry’s

Q . Are Induction Cookers or Infrared Cookers More Cost Effective than Using Gas
A. You only need about half the amount of kWh’s for induction or infrared to cook the same food than gas. However, gas is usually a third or a quarter of the price per kWh, so gas is nearly always cheaper. However with the shortage of gas it is necessary to have either an Induction cocker or an Infrared Cooker as a Backup option
